SONNY'S The Car Wash Factory Celebrates Safety Milestone

Tamarac, Florida — February 2, 2010 – For 500 straight work days, following the implementation of a corporate-wide safety initiative, SONNY'S The Car Wash Factory has had zero warehouse employees lose a full day of work due to a work-related injury. As an average month is 22 working days, the 500 day milestone represents over 22 months of consecutive safe operation. The company's previous record before the safety initiative was 62 safe work days.

"When an employee is injured and looses time, he is also loosing income which affects his entire family," states Cliff Tash, Vice President of Production & Logistics for SONNY'S. "Work accidents hurt morale and disrupt efficiency. By focusing on safety, we're able to deliver a higher quality product at a lower cost."

"From a company stand point, when our experienced and skilled employees are working as scheduled, we are certainly more productive and not scrambling to find and train a replacement," comments Paul Fazio President of SONNY'S. "In addition, the cost of workman's comp injuries is a significant factor affecting our bottom line. Having a safe work environment benefits our company and our customers, as well as our employees."

Employees were encouraged to become a part of the company's process to create and maintain a safe working environment. The company held safety meetings and stressed continuous safety awareness with signs and posters.

"We made it their project," states Tash. "We involved every employee at every level and even held a safety raffle to increase awareness and add some fun. Employees were asked safety related questions and received raffle tickets for correct answers. These tickets were used to win various prizes."

"The key to a safe work environment is increased awareness & training," explains Fazio. "From a corporate standpoint we have made a strong investment in doing what needs to be done to develop and sustain safety. We have a Zero Tolerance policy for unsafe work habits."

To celebrate the milestone of 500 Safe Work Days, SONNY'S Warehouse employees were rewarded for their hard work with special T-shirts and a pizza lunch. The next goal is to achieve 750 days.
